City.Tower was a design studio for Master degree of architecture at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. It was based on a design competition for the future home of Australian institute of Architect in Victoria. The brief for was a multiuse high rise that in addition to housing new AIA offices, would provide public space, hotel space and retail areas; a modern take on an office high rise in the heart of the central business district in Melbourne.
The main challenge to the design was the small footprint of the site and lack of exposure to desirable views and natural light, because of the proximity to high rises around the site. Hence the plans of each floor rotated slightly at each story in search of the prime views and natural light.
